I drove us to the casino, and by the time we got there, we decided half the team should stay in the car to get some rest, so we could start sleeping in shifts. Luyanda, Hana, and I went into the casino to do the puzzle and little did we know that this wasn’t just a puzzling location, but the overnight hub.
It’s really great that there is an overnight hub, and it’s really perfect timing that we got there when we did because it came right when we needed it. There were puzzling rooms and a “Quiet Room” which is where people could sleep (but when we went back to the car, the rest of the team said they’d rather sleep in the car than on a casino conference room floor).
So, we went back into the casino and got our first puzzle at the HUB. It was “Blink” a puzzle centered around morse code with an added layer of encoding. This puzzle was one of my favorites from the whole weekend, probably just because of how fun it was to play with buttons and switches.
Once we solved that puzzle, I decided that I needed to get some sleep and tried sleeping on the floor of the Quiet Room. This was basically impossible because there were at least 80 people trying to do the same. There was a lot of snoring and people opening and closing the door. After about an hour, I couldn’t stand it anymore and went to the car to get my pillow and a sleeping bag to use as a blanket. Once I had that, was able to sleep til about 6:30 in the morning.
